On 16 December 2013, NAI Young Arbitration Practitioners (NAI Jong Oranje) and the NGB (the Dutch Association of Company Lawyers) organised the meeting “Arbitration in practice: a panel discussion” at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in Amsterdam. Peter Rees, Legal Director and Executive Committee member at Shell, Sven Dumoulin, General Counsel and Executive Committee member at AkzoNobel, mr. O.L.O. de Witt Wijnen, former partner at NautaDutilh N.V., and Bregje Korthals Altes, partner at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek N.V., discussed a number of statements during this panel discussion, chaired by Ilona Crommentuijn, legal counsel at KLM, and Rogier Schellaars, partner at Simmons & Simmons LLP. The meeting was characterised by its international nature.
On 18 July 2013, the twenty-third meeting was held at Simmons & Simmons LLP in Amsterdam. Paulien Ernste, university lecturer at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Bart Leijnse, partner at Leijnse Artz law firm in Rotterdam, and Saskia Reuling, partner at ReulingSchutte in Amsterdam, discussed the subject of Alternative Dispute Resolution, each giving a pitch on the pros and cons of binding advice, arbitration and mediation. The working group had made several scenarios and the participants were asked to determine which form of alternative dispute resolution could best be applied to the particular scenarios.
